Turnover Percentage estimates turnovers per 100 individual possessions used. It captures how frequently a player gives up possessions through poor decision-making, fumbles, or bad passes — normalized for pace and usage.
Pace-adjusted and usage-adjusted. High-usage players naturally accumulate more raw turnovers — TOV% gives a fair rate comparison regardless of role.
Does not distinguish between types of turnovers. A live-ball turnover leading to a fast break basket is far more damaging than a dead-ball turnover. Some "turnovers" are intentional (fouling to stop the clock). Not all players face equal levels of defensive pressure that could force turnovers.
TOV% is scored in APEX's Playmaking pillar at 20% within-pillar weight as an inverse penalty — higher turnover rates reduce a player's Playmaking pillar score. Ball-handling efficiency is a genuine component of playmaking value. TOV% works alongside AST% and AST/TOV to provide a complete picture of playmaking contribution.
