Win Score

Win Score is a simplified composite developed by economist David Berri as the foundation for his Wins Produced metric. It uses points, rebounds, steals, assists, and blocks minus field goal attempts, free throw attempts, and turnovers.

Win Score = PTS + REB + STL + 0.5 × BLK + 0.5 × AST − FGA − 0.5 × FTA − TOV

Arbitrary coefficients. No opponent quality adjustment. The same fundamental limitations as FIC, PER, and other box score composites.

Not used in APEX. Win Score is the foundation of a methodological tradition (Berri's Wins Produced) that the analytics community generally considers less accurate than RAPM-family estimators. Position Adjusted Win Score (PAWS) is Win Score with a positional adjustment applied; neither is used.
